Frequently Asked Questions — Pure Katan Silk Banarasi Sarees
What is Pure Katan Silk?
Katan silk is a fine, tightly woven silk fabric made using pure mulberry silk threads. It is one of the oldest and most prized weaving traditions of Varanasi. The fabric is smooth, lustrous, and gets softer with every wear.
How is a Katan Silk saree different from other Banarasi sarees?
Katan silk uses a plain weave base (no extra threads), making it lighter and more breathable than Organza or Georgette Banarasi sarees. The zari work is directly woven into the fabric, not printed or embroidered.
Is the zari real gold or silver?
Our Pure Katan Silk sarees use real zari — a combination of silver wire coated with gold. Each saree is GI certified and comes with a silk mark certificate confirming authenticity.
How many days does it take to handweave one saree?
A Pure Katan Silk Banarasi saree takes between 15 to 30 days to handweave, depending on the complexity of the design. Each piece is made by master weavers in Varanasi.

How do I care for a Pure Katan Silk saree?
